What My Feet Have Known

My feet,
unlike so many
of their modern kin,

have led
a rich
and adventuresome life,

with ample opportunity
to explore
the wonders
of the natural world.

They have known
the warmth
of sand
kissed by
a distant sun,

the freshness
of green grass
graced by
morning dew,

the smoothness
of stones
shaped by
millennia of
moving water.

They have been
intimately acquainted

with many streams
and many shores,

tasted exquisite
sensual delights,

and explored
extraordinary places.

They have known
what those
who spend
all their days
inside shoes
have forgotten.
